The Ministry of Business Development and Tourism in partnership with BlackBerry manufacturers Research in Motion (RIM), and local carrier CellOne announced the winners of the "App-ti-tude" competition last night during a Mobile Monday reception during TechWeek. The competition was designed for software developers and entrepreneurs to create innovative applications for the BlackBerry smartphone or PlayBook. The Bermuda Government was the first government to partner with Research in Motion (RIM) to host such an event. The winners were: Main Category - Winner: “LOVE – Little Onions Various Events” submitted by Michael Sinclair. This is a PlayBook application that should make life a little easier for parents who are looking for activities for their children. Users can find interesting activities from across the Island and start the registration process online. Main Category – Second Place: “TABS” submitted by Gateway Systems Limited. This Blackberry smartphone application allows office workers to sign in and out on the company’s electronic in/out board. Additionally, workers have access to the entire board on the go. Main Category – Third Place: “ADMITME” submitted by Cornell Castle, Tilhan Chitrananda, Hannah Collins, and Justin Tucker. This Blackberry PlayBook application allows users to pre-admit themselves into the King Edward VII Memorial Hospital for non-emergency procedures. Users can submit their personal information prior to reaching the hospital, thus speeding up treatment time. The "LOVE" application has won a free trip to the 2011 BlackBerry Developer Conference, which runs October 18-20 in San Francisco, California and $5,000. Second and Third place won $4,000 and $3,000 respectively. The “Round de Island Boat Race” application has won Blackberry PlayBooks for the team members and $2,000. Thank you to our sponsores:
